Residential design

Inclusive home

Project description

The clients, Zara and Sam purchased a house and is looking to renovate it. Zara have a congenital joint condition that limits her mobility. They want a design that reflects a contemporary style but they are open to other suggestions as well. They want a home office where Zara can do work. The current house has 3 bedrooms. They would like one bedroom to be converted into a home office for Zara. Zara does make use of fore arm crutches but might need to use a wheelchair from time to time. The design should focus on inclusivity and a human-centred design.

Design rationale

The design intention is to design a house where Zara will be comfortable enough to move around without any obstacles. The colours scheme is a contemporary colour scheme with pops of coolour to reflect Zara’s industry which is graphic design. The materials that are used is slip resistant. New interior walls were added. All the built in/custom elements were designed in a way where Zara will still be able to move around and approach them if she makes use of a wheelcahir. Over all the custom designed elements have enough leg space underneath them.
